Happy Hannukah! 1

It is the Festival of Lights or the Festival of Dedications. This is one of the Jews minor holidays and why not, it means the re-dedication of the Temple of Jerusalem.

The Hannukah is celebrated for eight days. For Hannukah 2010, the celebration starts on the sunset of December 1 up to the sunset of December 9. And you know the Hannukah menorah where each one is lighted every night. These lights are kindled half an hour before night time. Friday night is normally the problem since no Jew can light anything on a Sabbath. But, they can sure keep that fire going until atleast half an hour before night fall.

Anyway, I get lost over traditions but I do enjoy holidays. And of course the best part is knowing something about other people’s traditions and holidays. Do you know that during the Hannukah, Jews sing Hannukah songs in Jewish homes, much like carolling for the Christians. They have prayers before the lighting of the Hannukah lights. And if you are familiar with the Bible, the Jews would normally recite passages from Psalm as prayer. The Torah is read and story telling would also be parts of the Feast. And of course the Jews seal the Hannukah with the dedication.
